Non-spoilery thoughts on Inception
I finally saw Inception last night (FINALLY, right?) and man, was I ever blown away. That film lives up to the hype in every way. Considering the love-fest that has circulated the web over the past days, it’s easy to see how I could have easily entered that movie with expectations that were too high. But thankfully, Christopher Nolan is a genius.
Here are the non-spoilers that I absolutely loved:
- The story. That should be obvious, but just in case it isn’t. Nolan proves that you can write an original story and don’t have to rely on ‘80’s nostalgia or proven franchises to make something that people will watch.
- Leonardo DiCaprio. Would someone please give this man an Oscar already?
- Hans Zimmer’s score. HOLY CRAP THE MUSIC IS AMAZING.
- The cinematography. There’s a lot going on in this movie, yet it is brilliantly captured by Nolan’s cinematographer, Wally Pfister.
- It’s accessible. Despite being complex and at times a bit confusing, I still think the movies is not inaccessible to audiences. Plus, the fact that much of it is open to interpretation allows the viewer to really fill in the spots where they don’t quite understand.
- The supporting cast. Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Ken Watanabe, Tom Hardy, Dileep Rao, Cillian Murphy are all great. Page really surprised me with how mature she seemed.
I’m planning to see it at least one more time. I want to see it in IMAX since Pfister is such a big fan of the format. Either way, it’s a movie that is good enough to be watched more than once.
GO SEE IT NOW.
