The MTV #!@$ing Movie Awards

popculturebrain:

I’m not even going to discuss the awards, because there’s really no point. (Angelina Jolie was nominated for movie that hasn’t even come out yet?!) But if we look beyond those pesky formalities, there were some genuine funny moments. Yes, they went live and abused the humor that comes from cussing (hence the title) but the sketches, the appearances, and Aziz all hit the mark. Highlights include the cast of Scott Pilgrim (Aubrey Plaza in particular), Tom Cruise being popular again, Ed Helms and Ken Jeong’s number, and Jason Segel’s banter with Miranda Cosgrove.

Someone get Ken Jeong a Xanax.

A few more scattered thoughts:

  • Sandra Bullock said, “lets go back to normal.” Didn’t Giuliani say the same thing after 9/11?
  • Sandra Bullock and Scarlet Johansson’s kiss was definitely cooked up to drive Google searches.
  • Nerd alert: I got chills from the Harry Potter 7 trailer.

The MTV Movie “Awards” are not really about the awards, like you said. I mean, what “awards show” gives New Moon FIVE awards? The best part of that show (and the reason I continue to watch it) has always been the sketches, the host (Aziz killed) and the randomness of it all.

But seriously…the Salt nomination? REALLY? Especially when you have it going up against last summer’s Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.

My favorites of the show:

  • Aziz as Taavon
  • Ken Jeong’s speech
  • Len Grossman

The rest of it was solid. Except of course for the awards part and having to suffer through Kristen Stewart giving like 3 speeches. Awkwardness, you have a new name, and it is Kristen Stewart.
