A good problem to have - Mike Industries
Mike Davidson, @mikeindustries, provides one of the best assessments of the Adobe/Apple brouhaha that I’ve read up to this point. This interchange that he posted is how I’ve felt about Apple products since I started using them and all my friends thought I was crazy.
Other person: “When are you going to give up already and start using a PC? The war is over. Apple lost.”
Me: “They still make the best stuff and I want to support the company that makes the best stuff; not a company that uses their monopoly to sell products.”
Other person: “Don’t you think Apple would do the same thing if they were in charge?”
Me: “Yes. They’d probably be even more ruthless, but at least they’d make great products.”
Great products. That’s what Apple makes. So it’s their prerogative whether or not to include Flash when HTML5 will do. I’m going to trust their judgement. It’s that judgement that has gotten them to the point where they may surpass Microsoft in market cap this year.
I want to ask the people who say the lack of Flash on the iPhone is a deal-breaker for them, “What will you use Flash for when it arrives on your phone?” because there are really only two answers: games and/or porn. I just want them to actually say it.
