sheasylvia asked: What are you most excited about experiencing at SXSW? (Still trying to contain my jealousy... unless I manage to obtain a free badge for the third year in a row!)
A better question might have been what are you NOT excited about and my answer would be “NOTHING.”
Having never been to SXSW and only appreciated it from afar, I don’t even know where to start. Here are some of the highlights:
- Meeting/seeing/listening to some of my interactive heroes. As someone who was a writer who became a designer who moved exclusively to the web and taught himself, I feel like a lot of the folks that will be presenting are like mentors and I can’t wait to see these folks in person instead of in digital format.
- Hanging out with some of my newer web friends. I know that there are going to be cool people there and I may even know some of them. It will be fun to be at a conference where I actually know people vs. the Web 2.0 Expo in NY, which was amazing, but I didn’t know a soul.
- Traveling to Austin. I haven’t been to that city since like 1994. I was in high school at the time, just in case you need to know just how old I am. I spent the majority of my time in a large convention hall playing in a volleyball tournament. I’m looking forward to seeing the city. One thing I love about traveling to cities that I’m unfamiliar with is photographing them. Austin better get ready to VOGUE.
- THIS. You won’t see me anywhere near the stage, but I’ll be enjoying from the audience.
