Things I liked/disliked about The Emmys
I’m a self-professed awards show fanatic. I love the Oscars, the Emmys, the SAGs, the Golden Globes…I’ve even watched the Tonys before. Last night’s Emmy awards was a lot of fun, and this time, I was even more pleased because some of the shows that I actually wanted to win won.
What I liked:
Jimmy Fallon did a terrific job hosting. He brought his own quirky sensibility to...

Sara Bareilles covers Beyonce’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)” for Billboard.com
I might be late to the game on this one (might is an understatement…this is one of the most popular videos on Billboard.com), but this is just awesome. I’m very much looking forward to Sara Bareilles’ sophomore album. If you take away the catchy-until-it-was-totally-over-played...

Chrome Experiments - Arcade Fire →
filmgirl:
This is maybe the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen done on the web. I’m not even remotely joking.
All superlatives aside…this is why I love the Internet. It is full of genius. If you’re going to mess around on the web, don’t check Facebook or play Freecell or watch cat videos on YouTube or anything else.
Go immediately to this website and see what is possible with...

The Problem with Facebook's "Places" →
maniacalrage:
And, most recently, Facebook launched Places, competing with Foursquare and Gowalla (my favorite). Places launched and 20 minutes later nearly everyone in my Facebook friends list had already checked in. It’s not that Facebook’s Places feature is bad, it’s just that it’s boring. It’s nothing special. They didn’t do it better than anyone else.
You should probably read the whole...

Another reason Gowalla is better than Foursquare →
I have yet to see Foursquare try to do anything remotely useful. They might have the users, but the brains are in Austin. Nice work to the Gowalla team.
Gowalla Goes out with TOMS Shoes and AT&T to celebrate 1 millionth shoe drop
You probably have already heard of TOMS Shoes and the wonderful work they do around the world: when you purchase a pair of TOMS shoes, one pair of new shoes is...

Who should replace Steve Carell on 'The Office'? →
Michael Ausiello has been keeping track of potential replacements for when Steve Carell leaves The Office after this season.
His initial list:
Ricky Gervais
Kathy Bates
Amy Ryan
Rainn Wilson
Michael Emerson
Craig Robinson
David Cross
And now, there have been two more folks added to the list: Danny McBride of Eastbound & Down and Rhys Darby of Flight of the Conchords.
There are a few...

Forrester is full of morons →
Forrester analyst Ted Schadler wrote a post on the Groundswell blog today about using the iPad for business. It is a generally complimentary article, but what stood out to me as moronic were Ted’s requests for features not yet available on the iPad:
Full Microsoft Office Support
Mouse support
More and better business apps
So, basically, what Ted here is looking for is a netbook.
First,...

Thing that is annoying Shane today
All the Android folks congratulating themselves for finally surpassing The iPhone as the number one mobile operating system in the US. Impressive, but there are like 80 Android phones on each network and still only one iPhone on one network.
It’s simple math people. Of course there are more. If Apple ever decides to open to other networks besides AT&T, that will change. Here’s...

‘Little Fockers’ Reshoots to Add Much-Needed... →
popculturebrain:
Earlier this week there was a report that a week’s worth of pick-up shots were in order, to give the film a little more zing. Now another source says that the film might undergo more dramatic reconstructive surgery, including (if possible) an injection of Dustin Hoffman.
Pick-ups and reshoots are a typical, budgeted part of production. They’re a cheap fix. No big deal. But...
